Ikyu Diamond Benefits at Gate Hotel Ryogoku are a Great Value

"Gate Hotel Ryogoku" opened in November 2020

Located facing the Sumida River, it's just a 3-minute walk from JR Ryogoku Station and right in front of the Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Hall. The top-floor terrace offers a panoramic view of Tokyo Skytree, the Sumida River, and the Ryogoku area. I stayed here because I heard the freshly squeezed orange juice at breakfast is quite popular.

• If coming from JR Ryogoku Station , take the down escalator near car 6 to the "West Exit"
• In the case of Ryogoku Station on the Oedo Line ,
• Exit the ticket gate at car 2 or the escalator near car 8 (elevator near car 4) and go to "A4" (A3 elevator).

• To get there from JR Ryogoku Station, exit the west exit and turn right.

• Ryogoku Kokugikan is almost directly ahead, go left at the front and you will reach Kokugikan Street.

• Turn right onto Kokugikan Street

• Cross the first crosswalk (with traffic lights) and turn right again

• Cross the crosswalk and turn right and you will soon see Gate Hotel Ryogoku.

• Upon arrival at the hotel, take the escalator or elevator to the 2nd floor front desk and check in.

• Route from JR Line and Oedo Line stations to the hotel

• The front desk and amenities are in the room, so you receive your key and go to your room. In some cases, you may need to pay a separate accommodation tax even if you pay in advance.

• Floor map: This room is 703 "Authentic Double" for two people with breakfast, 18,180 yen (after using 8,910 yen worth of points immediately). I also stayed in an "Authentic Double" for one person only for 9,592 yen (after using 4,686 yen worth of points immediately) the previous week, so some of the photos may be mixed up, but it's the same room type and the only difference is the view outside the window.

• All rooms of this type are located on the Kokugikan side, on the 4th to 8th floors, and are 21m2 in size. Depending on the room type, the river side and floor number are limited, so we recommend checking the official website in advance. In particular, since there is a highway running along the river side, the Witz type on the 4th floor may not be to everyone's taste.

• The desk is a Hana type.

• There were two types of Nespresso coffee, but I wasn't sure what the difference was. I tried one espresso and one lungo, and I recommend the lungo.

• There are cups and glasses in the drawer, and recently I've been enjoying drinking water in a glass with ice prepared in an ice bucket...

  ...This is a ward-run pool, which I also mentioned in my review of the APA Hotel & Resort Ryogoku Station . It's open to both Tokyo residents and non-residents for 410 yen per visit. It's a little further away than the APA, but I highly recommend it.

"Tonkatsu Hasegawa" is also listed in the Michelin Guide. I visited around 7pm on a weekday and was able to get in without a reservation, but by the time I left around 8pm, there was a line of about five groups, so it's probably best to make a reservation.

Overall ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

As a first-time Ikyu Diamond member, this was my first experience staying at a hotel with special benefits. The benefits were: 1) free coffee, 2) original rosé sparkling wine, and 3) welcome chocolate. There was no room upgrade, but the service was better than early check-in, late check-out, and free parking. It was a shame that the terrace lounge where you could enjoy wine only had limited hours ( 5pm - 10pm), but it seems you can also take it to your room.
